Yvonne E. Baker, age 67, joined her Heavenly Father, after a 5 year battle with cancer, on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at her home in Deforest. She was born on September 20, 1947 in Lansing MI and was the Daughter of Dareld and Rosie (Fenstemaker) Cunningham. She married Larry Baker on October 6, 1972 in Lansing Michigan.
Yvonne was a teacher's aide at DeForest High School, working as a special education assistant. She was also an AWANA leader for many years. She was an amazing cook and baker known especially for her raspberry dessert. Yvonne loved traveling and had been around the world, but her favorite place to be was on Lake Michigan. Yvonne was the greatest friend anyone could ever have.
Yvonne is survived by her husband Larry; children, Steve (Sheila) Baker of Etna Green, IN, Lara Baker of Sturgeon Bay, Andrew Baker of San Diego, CA, and Tony Baker of De Pere; sister Nancy Cunningham of Lansing MI; brother Gary Cunningham of Hastings MI; 2 grandchildren Savannah and Shaniah Baker; several nieces, nephews, and a plethora friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie. Pastor John Gerdts will preside. Visitation will be at 12:00 noon until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Yvonne and I worked at the Michigan State Housing Development Authority back in the early 70's. I was just out of college and Yvonne (my secretary) showed me the ropes. She was always there with tips on how and why things should be done a certain way. She always had a smile on her face and sometimes a kind word to go with it. Yvonne was one of the most pleasant people I ever met. We worked at DAHS at the same time. She was amazing working with her special ed students and usually laughing and enjoying time with them. She brought joy wherever she went. It saddens me to learn of her passing. I will always remember her smile.
