Wilmer Ernest Trodahl, 90, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Prairie Gardens surrounded by his family. He was born on September 15, 1921 in Sturgeon Bay (Sawyer), and grew up on his Norwegian parents' fruit orchards. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1939 and later the U.W. Madison Law School. On May 19, 1943 he married Marijean Hartel of Sturgeon Bay. He was a World War II Veteran, joining the Army to become a member of the 10th Mountain Infantry Division where he proudly served in combat, and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for heroic action in Italy.
After graduating from law school in 1951, he established a 40 year private law practice in Sun Prairie and served as the village, then city attorney for 32 years. He was instrumental in Sun Prairie's transformation from a small town into a thriving city and was active in country, municipal and service endeavors. He especially enjoyed the distinction of being the longest serving active member of the Sun Prairie Lion's Club. He was a member of The Sun Prairie United Methodist Church.
Wilmer is survived by his wife, Marijean, daughter Nancy (Jae Bock) Chung of Sun Prairie, a son Dane (Barb) Trodahl of Wonewoc; sister Betty (Dean) Pies of Algoma; daughter-in-law, Joann Trodahl of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Christopher Chung, Amy (Nicholas) Augelli, Leslie (Dustin) Ruff, Krista (Michael) Shorter, Nicholas Trodahl and Benn Trodahl; great grandchildren, Arzelia Augelli, Francesca Augelli and Eric Shorter. He was preceded in death by a son Eric Trodahl; brothers, Hartman, Waldo, Doren, Robert and Douglas Trodahl; a sister, Mae Austin. A private funeral service will be held.
