Willis D. Irwin, age 90, died Monday, June 29, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born June 12, 1925 in Madison, the son of Lester and Ann (Howe) Irwin. He married Jean Smith, daughter of Orville and Ruth (McGovern) Smith, on September 6, 1947 at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was a signal man on a landing ship. He was a very active member of Sun Prairie Lions Club, and a member of Loyal Wisconsin American Legion. He owned and operated Bill Irwin Plumbing for 45 years. Bill was very passionate and active regarding baseball and was an avid follower of Sun Prairie High School sports. Bill spent much of his free time hunting and fishing throughout the year.
He is survived by his daughter Kristy Irwin of Madison; granddaughter Danielle (Doug) Beneteau of Liberty Township, OH; 2 great-grandchildren Zach and Brady; daughter-in-law Donna (George) Bryans of Fairfield Township, OH; and special friend Mary Cooper.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife; son Daniel; his parents; a brother James; and a sister Virginia Lockwood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass Tuesday at the Church. Burial will be at Sun Prairie Memory Garden. Memorials can be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital or The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
