William F. Grenier, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at The Lighthouse of Sun Prairie surrounded by his loving family. William (Bill) was born on April 7th, 1933 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, the son of Lesime and Laura Grenier. He was the last surviving member of 11 children. Bill graduated from Washington High School, Two Rivers, WI in 1951. He married the love of his life, Carol, on November 7th, 1953. He entered the U.S. Army in 1954 during the Korean War. He was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and Ft. Lewis, Washington. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1960. He worked for the State of Wisconsin including positions with the Department of Administration-State Bureau of Personnel and advanced to the Director of the State Bureau of Human Resource Services. He was the Administrator of the Job Service Division in the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations and later, Administrator of the Division of Employment and Training. He retired after 29 years of service. Bill had a tremendous love of family and enjoyed family gatherings. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors, especially his trip to Alaska with his friend Zeke. He also enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Crivitz and the hunting cabin in Neillsville. Bill had a great sense of humor which was enjoyed by all. The Badgers, Packers and Sun Prairie Cardinals were his favorite teams. Surviving members of his family are his wife Carol, daughters Marcelyn (Paul) Thornburgh, Kathryn (John) Grenier-Cardott, Lora Lockman, and sons Jon (Deborah) Grenier and Douglas (Shannon) Grenier. Grandchildren: Thomas (Megan) Thornburgh, Michael (Molly) Thornburgh, Trever (Cheyenne) Weichmann, Tina (Nick) Graham, Connie (Troy) Hauge, Brenda (Brian) Broughman, Matthew and Emily Grenier, Corbin, Gavin and Jayden Grenier. Great Grandchildren: Lillian, Oliver, Leonidas, Beau, Jami, Reid, Luke, Josie and Branden. Other surviving relatives include brother-in-law Robert (Carolyn) Zellner, sisters-in-law Elaine Schuetze, Evie Flegle, Lorraine Komoroske, and Ann Grenier and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters Lawrence Grenier, Robert (Rose) Grenier, Marie (Marty) Brenner, Doris (Gilbert) Zuehlke, Edmund Grenier, Julius (Helen) Grenier, Violet (Joe) Tadych, Norma (Aaron) Klein, Erma (Leroy) Hetue, and Donna Zellner, brothers-in-law, Howard Flegle and Ralph Schuetze, and son-in-law Douglas Lockman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie, with Father Steve Petrica presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m at The Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St., Sun Prairie before the service. Entombment will be held at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens at a later date. Special thanks to Dr. Greg Motl and the staff at The Lighthouse and Agrace Hospice for their excellent care and loving support.
