On the evening of July 29, surrounded by his family, William Sanford passed away.
William (Bill) was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, on January 20, 1935 to John and Mae (Slusser) Sanford. He was the second of fifteen children. Early in his 20s Bill met Germaine (Geri) Lafler; the pair quickly fell in love and on October 27, 1956, they were married.
During their 50 years together, the couple was blessed with seven children: three daughters and four sons. Bill's employment by the Wisconsin Gas Company entailed promotions which required the family to relocate several times between 1956 and 1972. It was early in that year that the family moved to Sun Prairie where, in 1990, Bill retired.
Bill is survived by daughters Stacie (Sister Anastasia, SCC) Sanford of Wilmette, IL; Sue Nelson (Jane Kahl) of Sun Prairie and Nancie Sanford (Erik Burtz) of Madison; and sons Paul (Kathie) Sanford of Sun Prairie; Rick Sanford of Boscobel; Alan (Kathy) Sanford of Baraboo; and Todd (Lisa) Sanford of Stoughton. Eight grandchildren and two great-grandsons complete the family circle. Bill is further survived by his siblings Marilyn (Donald) Slusarski of Stevens Point, WI; Stephen (Emily) Sanford of Huntington Beach, CA; Elizabeth (Thomas) Densch of Port Edwards, WI; Mark (Mary Lou) Sanford of Mosinee, WI; Teresa Dykstra of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Jeanne (Robert) Mahnke of Gainsville, GA; Constance (James) Sponem of Madison, WI; Margaret (Dale) Ziege of Madison, WI; Peter (Cathy) Sanford of Colesburg, IA; James (Maribeth) Sanford of Madison, WI; as well as by many nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Audrey Ballweg.
He was preceded in death by his wife Germaine (2007), his parents; his sister Kathlyn Kaepernick; and by three siblings, Denis Sanford, Rosalind Sanford, and Joseph Sanford, all of whom died in childhood. A grandson, John Sanford, also preceded him in death in 2000.
