Wanetta Dunn, age 94 passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Prairie Gardens in Sun Prairie. She was born on June 3, 1918 in Sun Prairie and was the daughter of Matthias and Norma (Casper) Strand. Her mother died when she was 9 months old of the flu of 1919. She married Ervin Dunn on June 15, 1940 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Madison. She went to Columbia County Normal Teachers College in Columbus and Whitewater State University. She taught school for a while at country schools and then had a 30 year tenure teaching 2nd grade at Sacred Hearts Catholic School in Sun Prairie. She also worked at Sacred Hearts Daycare. She was a local reporter for Sun Prairie for the Capital Times. She had a great thirst for learning. She proved that a teacher never stops reading, learning new things, doing research, and helping students learn. Children were always foremost in her life and she was special to many of her students. She belonged to St. Ann's Altar Society. She was the best mother who also loved her flower gardens, decorating, reading, television and playing cards. Her life was complete when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born.
She is survived by her children, Leo (Gloria) Dunn of Green Valley, AZ, Mary (Dennis) Wagner of Sun Prairie, Alice (Thomas) Fulop of Brookfield, James Dunn of Sandwich, IL, Lois Dunn of Madison; 3 grandchildren, Tiffany (Peter) Yelk of Sun Prairie, Kristin (Chris) Weber of Wauwatosa, Daniel (Sarah) Fulop-Furlano of Santa Cruz, CA; 4 great grandchildren, Hannah Yelk, Marek Fulop-Furlano, Jack and Samuel Weber and a sister-in-law, Elaine Dunn of Sun Prairie.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, an infant son and Josephine Strand who helped raise her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie. Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt will preside. Burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday. The family would like to thank Prairie Gardens, Dr. Nosal and Agrace HospiceCare Inc. Memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts School Endowment Fund and Agrace HospiceCare Inc. in her name.
