Robert C. Maffet, age 94, walked into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 14, 2011. Bob had always been an avid walker, and in his younger days would walk many miles every day. He was the only child of Carl and Elsie (Heritz) Maffet. He was the father of Ronald (Judy) Maffet of Sun Prairie and grandfather of Timm (Harmony) Maffet of Mt. Pleasant and Camie (Charlie) Andrews of Sun Prairie. He was also the doting great grandfather of Alex (7), Carter (6) and Mitchie (2). In his later years they loved to come and visit him at Haack’s TenderCare and watching them give him so much pleasure. Robert lived his entire life in the Madison area graduating from West High School. He married Florence Gauer. She preceded him in death in 1987. Robert had a wonderful work ethic, and his last employment was in the Traffic Department in the City. One of his duties was to maintain the many coin parking meters in the city. At his retirement on January 15, 1982 he was awarded one of those meters in the form of a lamp. It is a treasured remembrance.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie. Chaplain Val Cappozzo will preside. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Madison. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Cancer Research Fund in honor of Florence or to HospiceCare Inc. who have been invaluable in his time of need. A special thanks are given to the staff at Haack’s TenderCare who treated him like a loving family member and to the caring people at Hospice who made his last months especially comfortable.
“God saw that his shoes were getting heavy, so they gave him wings.”
