Robert A. Pfaff, age 74 passed away at home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 after a long illness. He was born on July 7, 1940, in Madison to Wilmer and Loretta (Coffey) Pfaff. He graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1958. Bob served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. He married Cathy Renz on September 29, 1962, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Bob worked at Oscar Mayer for 40 years retiring in 2001.
He is survived by his wife Cathy; Blessed with 3 children Pam (David) Hoekstra, Mark Pfaff, and Kristi (Kennan) Crothers; 6 “adored” grandchildren, Brady and Sydney Hoekstra, Kala Pfaff, Chase, Kwynn and Chloe Crothers; 2 sisters Kay Ringelstetter and Mary (Jeff) Taylor; many cousins, nieces, nephews, dear in-laws, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law Tami Pfaff; and brother-in-law Leonard Ringelstetter.
Bob made many lifelong friends from his years playing softball. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting and exercise. Bob loved coaching his son in baseball, and continued to coach several more years for the VFW Teener team. After retiring from Oscar Mayer, Bob fulfilled his dream purchasing land up north. He spent treasured time there planting trees and hunting with his son, son-in-laws and grandsons. Bob loved spending time with all his grandchildren. His strong faith was evident to all who knew him.
Bob dedicated the last 18 months participating in a research study for his illness at Indiana University. His passion and sacrifices to be a participant will always be deeply appreciated for generations to come. The Family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Benson and staff at the University of Indiana Research Dept., as well as Dr. Yee and staff from Meriter, DeForest for his exceptional care these past few years!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie, and from 2 p.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Tuesday. A Rosary service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening. Burial will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts Building and Grounds Fund or Agrace HospiceCare.
