Patrick Robert Smythe-Eagle passed away unexpectedly on February 2nd at UW Hospital. He lived an eloquent and dignified life and went “gently into that good night.” He was born in Jackson, Mich., on May 23, 1946. After living many years in the Jackson/Lansing area, Pat moved to Madison, Wis., in 1995. On April 20, 1996 with great celebration, Pat married Helene Smythe and her children; Sarah, James, Anna, Jacob, and Lisa. They moved to Deerfield, Wis., in 1999, where Pat served on the Deerfield Village Board for several years. Pat was a graduate of Michigan State University and an avid Spartan & Detroit Lions fan, but he whole heartedly supported the Badgers, Brewers & Packers.
Pat's wife and five step-children are heartbroken. Near and far he will be greatly missed by his parents Rita & Bob Eagle (Jackson, Mich.), his sisters; Sue Kenny (Des Moines, Iowa), Mary Beth Eagle (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Catherine Eagle (Madison, Wis.), and his brothers; Mike Eagle and Bob Eagle (Jackson, Mich.). Pat was honored to be a brother to his siblings' spouses, and honored to be uncle to the most wonderful nieces and nephews in the world. He delighted in being grandfather to Olivia, Troy and Emma. Pat's special relationships extend to his Facebook friends, as well as lifetime friends and neighbors. His wife's family embraced him and is devastated by his early departure. He is also survived by his old boat Smelly-Belly, his beloved dog Brinn, and his cat Bob III.
Pat will make his last journey home to Jackson, Mich., for services at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on February 11th. Mass begins at 10:30am, with a gathering afterwards at St. John's Community Center.
His family in WI will fulfill his wish with a celebration in his honor. All those who knew and loved Pat are invited to a commemoration of his life on February 18th from 1-9pm at 106 State Street in Deerfield, the home that he loved.
