Patricia “Trish” Downing, age 71, died unexpectedly but peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at home. She was born on May 3, 1941 in Janesville and was the daughter of Thomas and Violet (Murray) King. She graduated from Milton High School in 1960. Trish attended Madison Beauty College and was a Beautician in the Milton Area. She married Robert C. Downing on March 9, 1963 in Milton. She was a Special Education Aide for many years and also worked in the Sun Prairie School District Elementary lunchrooms. She retired in the late 1990's. Trish enjoyed traveling, shopping and watching her children and grandchildren participate in their sporting events. She loved her early morning warm water swims with her girlfriends and participating in their fun activities. However, most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 49 ½ years, Bob, her children, Wendy (Greg) Zeman of Burlington, Robert (Tammy) of Madison, Jamie (Tina) of Whitefish Bay. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Eric, Allison and Andrew Zeman, Colin Downing and Ava Downing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother Tom King and many friends and relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie. Father John Silva will preside. Burial will be in Sun Prairie Memory Gardens Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sun Prairie Educational Foundation to be given to the special education department. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

I always got a kick out of Mrs. Downing, always gave me a chuckle. It was not that long ago that I bumped into her and we had a fun time catching up since we had moved. She shared a lot and was so complimentary to Julia. Now that conversation is pretty precious. I always liked Pat and feel for the family at this very sad and heartbreaking time. It was so heartwarming to watch the love and pride that Trish had for her grandchildren. What an honor it was to get to know Trish over these many years. One of my most cherished memories is a fall day when Aunt Pat and Uncle Bob hosted a very fine Thanksgiving Dinner at their home in Sun Prarie. Many family and friends went deer hunting in the morning and I was blessed to harvest my first deer that day with my cousins near at hand. I was probably 10 years old. It was a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you Aunt Pat!
