Mynetta “Mickey” Duscheck Colwell passed away Saturday October 31, 2015. She was born June 5, 1940, the only child of Walter and Doris (Warnke) Duscheck in Columbus, Wisconsin. On July 30, 1960, she married her lifelong dance partner Robert Colwell. They were married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Doylestown, Wisconsin.
Mickey graduated from Columbia County Teachers College and taught in one room schools in Stoughton and Token Creek. While raising her children, she was a substitute teacher in the Sun Prairie Elementary Schools from 1966 and 1980. She worked at Wisconsin Cheeseman, Sun Prairie Pamida, and East Towne Shopko. She was chosen as Shopko's Customer Service Hero of the Year in 1997. She volunteered with the Sun Prairie Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Food Pantry, Public Library, and the Historical Museum and Library. Her favorite “volunteer job” was working at the Red Barn. As a member of Sacred Hearts Catholic Church since 1966, she volunteered for countless jobs. She and Bob served as premarriage advisors to couples being married at Sacred Hearts between 1987 and 2010. She belonged to a number of social and service clubs including the 3D Homemakers Club, Junque Unlimited Antiques, and Sacred Hearts Women's Circle. Mickey enjoyed antiques, gardening, camping, quilting, traveling, meeting new people as well as helping others. She was proud to have lived and raised her family in the home previously owned by her great grandparents Philip and Mathilda Duscheck on Columbus Street.
She is survived by her daughter Lynnette, husband Brent Roshell, their children Jacob and Matthew of Minnesota as well as her son Curtis Colwell, his daughter Lindsay, and his significant other, Jackie Catania, her daughters Chelsea and Ashley of Sun Prairie. In addition she is survived by her brother and sisters in law, Donald Colwell, Barbara Colwell, Kathleen Daley, Beverly Romens, and her six nieces and nephews. She is also survived by countless friends. She was in preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert “Bob” Colwell; her parents Walter and Doris Duscheck; and her brother in law Gerald Colwell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2014 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 4p.m. until 7 p.m. at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie, and from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the Church on Thursday. A special thank you to Agrace Hospice, Oakwood East Rehabilitation, St. Mary's Hospital and Prairie Gardens Assisted Living who helped family and friends care for her this past year. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sacred Hearts Cemetery Road Fund, Agrace Hospice or Relay for Life.
