I have Martha to thank for taking me (an awkward in every way teen ager) and giving me the courage, confidence, and skills to go on to college. She instilled in me such a love for the English language and literature (though I can't say the same for Latin) that I tried to follow in her footsteps and became an English teacher for 36 years. I always wanted to develop the "Martha stare" (a lethal weapon against misbehaving teens) but I never managed to do so. It was uniquely hers. It would make strong men quake to their knees and burley football bulls melt in their shoes. It would instantly incinerate females. We all knew: DO NOT INCUR THE WRATH OF COOK (OR TONN)! It was a fate worse than death. Education was a far poorer place when she left. I'm sure this world is also. But the world hereafter is far richer for her presence.

"Gram" was one of the kindest women I have ever known. She was always ready with a hug and a smile - I am glad I am fortunate to have know her, she certainly will be missed! Hugs to Janet, Al, Kelly, Kelsey.
