Marilyn J. (Piske) Hansen, age 88, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at her home.
She was born in Woodstock, Illinois., to Chris and Margaret (Anderson) Piske. She graduated from Woodstock High School and Rockford Memorial School of Nursing.
She married James M. Hansen on July 16, 1960. He passed away on January 25, 2009. Together they had six children. Early in their marriage, they moved from Illinois to Brodhead, WI on a plot of land with a fixer upper. Here, they raised dairy cattle and later raised bison.
In Marilyn’s early years, she played for Woodstock’s women’s softball team and even played against the Rockford Peaches. She told of an unforgettable experience she had biking across Europe with some friends. She also enjoyed telling stories of her nursing experiences before becoming a farmer’s wife. Aside from staying busy raising a family, she enjoyed watching sports, playing card/dice games, dabbling with the organ, and making those around her laugh with her sense of humor.
She is survived by her children: Joe (Jeanette) Hansen of Beloit, Lisa (Mark) Koch of Footville, Benjamin (Renee) Hansen of Orfordville, Jamie (Rosie) Hansen of Beloit, Kari (Chris) Peterson of KY, and Angie (Dan) Shickles; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Lorraine Krumm.
NECOMER-SILVERTHORN CHAPEL ON THE HILL is assisting with funeral services. The family will be remembering Marilyn in a small gathering with burial at Luther Valley Cemetery.
Thank you to Janet Rains and Marilyn’s granddaughter, Kelsey Mast, for their loving care. A special thanks, for the kindness and support, provided by her caregiver, Cindy Hess, along with Agrace Hospice.
