Marijean Trodahl, age 88, passed away early on Wednesday, December 26 at Prairie Gardens after spending Christmas with her family by her side.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1924 in Sturgeon Bay, the only child of Edward and Naomi Hartel. When she was ten years old, her parents moved to a rural orchard outside of Green Bay. She completed her grade school education in a one room school and graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1941. After her freshman year at the College of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, wartime blackouts forced her return to Door County and she joined the sales staff of the Sturgeon Bay H. C. Prange Department Store. There she met her future husband Wilmer Trodahl, a UW-Madison student home for the summer and working as a welder at the shipyard. They were married in 1943 in Sturgeon Bay.
Wilmer joined the army and Marijean continued working at Prange's until he returned from WWII in 1945. They moved to Madison and Wilmer finished law school. After receiving his degree in 1951, the couple decided to make Sun Prairie their permanent home.
Marijean for decades volunteered in Sun Prairie schools, her church and the library. She was also involved in countless service organizations including the American Legion and the VFW Women's Auxiliaries. She was especially proud of the fact she established Sun Prairie's first Girl Scout troop and was their leader for 15 years. She was a member of Sacred Hearts Church.
Marijean's passion was her family. Her friends were cherished. And her feline companions truely brightened her life. She loved to read and to create beautiful things through needlework.
Marijean is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Jae Bock) Chung of Sun Prairie; her son, Dane (Barb) Trodahl of Wonewoc; daughter-in-law, Joann Trodahl of Acworth, GA; grandchildren Christopher Chung, Amy (Nicholas) Augelli, Leslie (Dustin) Ruff, Krista (Michael) Shorter, Nicholas Trodahl and Benn Trodahl; great-grandchildren, Arzelia Augelli, Francesca Augelli and Eric Shorter. She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Trodahl and her husband, Wilmer Trodahl.
A private service will be held.
