Marie Catherine Matykowski, 90, died Monday, Jan 4, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Marie was born on July 7, 1925 in Racine and was the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Kressig) Mueller. She married Henry Matykowski on May 1, 1946. Marie spent most of her life raising 6 sons and working with Hank running Matty Oil Company and Matty's Discount Barn. Hank and Marie moved from Crivitz to Plover in 1965, where they resided until Hank's retirement, when they moved to Columbus and eventually to Sun Prairie. Marie loved music and watching her sons play and sing at family events, and of course the Brewers and Packers. She was an active member of various bands in the Racine area, including St. Catherine High School, the Acquin Hall Band, and Racine Park Band, playing the clarinet. Marie's true love besides Hank, were her six sons. She was the glue that truly held the family together as one. Her quick wit and dry humor made sure her boys stayed in line.
Marie is survived by her 6 children, John (Kathy) of Lacey, WA; Donald (Lois) of Stevens Point; William of Des Moines, IA; Gerald (Candice) of Minneapolis, MN; Charles (Lisa) of Williamsburg, VA; and George (Jayne) of Sun Prairie; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Catherine Goeghan of Milwaukee.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Catherine, her sister Eleanor, brothers, Lawrence and Rev. Joseph, and a grandchild Shelby Leigh Pressley.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Kindred Hearts Assisted Living facility and St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (especially Linda Leggett, Marie's very close friend).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016, at St Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert Drive in Sun Prairie. Monsignor Terrence Connors will preside. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in East Bristol. A visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
