SUN PRAIRIE
Lyle F. Suchomel, age 89, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023. Lyle was born on April 13, 1934 in Sun Prairie, the son of Emil and Anna (Duschack) Suchomel. He attended Sacred Hearts School and Sun Prairie High School, graduating with the Class of 1952. On June 28, 1958, he was married to Dorothy Mae Jesberger at the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church.
After high school, Lyle attended college at The Army Security Agency School, Fort Devens, Massachusetts, majoring in radio and electronics. He was stationed in Juneau, Alaska from 1954-1957 as a Morse code interceptor. After he returned from the service, he met the love of his life at a mutual friend’s wedding dance. They were married six months later and were blessed with five children.
Lyle first worked at Moldrem’s Furniture and Davidson’s City Services, later named Citgo. In 1960, he started his lifelong career with United States Postal Service as a clerk in the Sun Prairie office. He was a letter carrier from 1960 to 1979, and assumed superintendent duties in 1980. He was distribution manager for the Wisconsin State Journal and Capital Times newspapers during the 1970s and 1980s before he managed distribution for the Sun Prairie Star Countryman. Lyle was also active in Sun Prairie community affairs, assisting with the development of the YMCA and helping to develop a Scout group, serving as a leader/advisor for 20 years. He was also a member of the Groundhog Communicators Toastmaster organization and served many years as a commentator/lecturer for Sacred Hearts Church.
Lyle loved fishing (Wisconsin and Canadian lakes), boating, camping, hunting, playing cards, woodworking, remodeling projects, making wine and spending time with his grandkids (watching them play sports, numerous orchestra concerts, camping trips and fishing). He was known for his annual Smelt Fry and Suchomel Vineyards wine. In his retirement years, Lyle and Dorothy loved to travel with their RV. Together they enjoyed annual extended trips to Tucson, Arizona and visiting their out-of-state children and grandchildren. Some of their adventures include Niagara Falls, Hawaii, Alaskan Cruise, Nova Scotia, Canada, Disney World, and Branson, Missouri. He was a Badger Football season ticket holder for over 35 years and a dedicated Packer fan. He was also an avid whistler.
