I will always remember Laurie as a laughing, smiling person that I never saw get mad. I have great childhood memories of living next to the Vander Veldens. Jeff, JoJo, and Greg, I am so, so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts.

Laurie was always smiling and always offering calmness and friendship. She helped me with my premature daughter 30 years ago by taking to me and from the hospital. She shared the joys of her young children with humor and excitement. I never saw her mad or frustrated even during these past months. I will miss Laurie as will all of us. Love, Diane, John, Heather and Adam

I was much younger than Laurie. I think she was already married by the time I would remember anything, so I don't recall her being there when we visited Aunt Joanne and Uncle Art. But she did make me laugh when I was lamenting about wearing glasses as I aged. She remarked that she did not need to wear glasses to see, but wore them to cover the bags under her eyes. I was shocked, maybe she was just joking but I thought it was very funny. I am sure that was probably at Uncle Paul's funeral or if she visited Arizona once when I was there visiting. A sense of humor to remember. God bless you, all in your sorrow or anguish.

Laurie was only a few months older than I was. As we lived so far away, I only saw Laurie a few times over the years. We would stay at Aunt JoAnn's and Uncle Art's house some times when visiting as kids. My memory as a kid was at some point, Grandma Vanderhieden started calling me Laurie. I kept correcting her until I finally gave up. I would just answer when she called for Laurie when Laurie was clearly not there. Laurie was always soft spoken and smiling. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit with her in the last few years when visiting FL.
