Joseph W. Conrad, age 95, died on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Sun Prairie Health Care Center. He was born on August 20, 1917 in Sun Prairie and was the son of Joseph and Sadie (Kleiner) Conrad. He married Joyce Robertson on October 22, 1946 at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church. Joe served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. in the Philippines and France during WWII. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. 9362, American Legion Post #333, Sun Prairie Lions Club and Past President of the Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce. Joe also served on the Colonial Club Board of Directors and was on the Bank of Sun Prairie Board of Directors for 40 years. He began his 60 year grocery career in 1946, and joined Sentry Foods in 1968. Joe was totally committed to the Sun Prairie community, his customers and employees.
He is survived by his children: Penny (Terry) Pederson of Sun Prairie, Brian Conrad of Lake Mills, Elizabeth Conrad (M.J. Jones) of Madison, Joseph (Beth) Conrad Jr, of Artesia, CA, Nicholas (Becky) Conrad of Sun Prairie, Patty (Tom) Hebl of Sun Prairie, Maria (Ty) Quamme of Poynette and Kathryn (Sean) Boyce of Sun Prairie; grandchildren, Nate (Becky), Tim (Emily), Melissa (Andy), Stephanie, Bradley, Michelle, Shawn, Brandon (Vickie), Zach, Dylan, Katie, Jackie, Allison (Eduardo), Todd, Ashley, Cole, Lydia and Joey; great grandchildren, Devyn, Emma, Bennett, Lauryn, Blake, James, Cameron, Summer, Samuel and Oliver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce; sisters, Irma Arthur and Virginia Muller; a brother Carl Conrad; 2 grandsons, Jeffrey Pederson and Christopher Conrad; infant granddaughter Avery Quamme and wife Jean.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie. Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt will preside. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. A private burial will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery where graveside military rites will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts Athletic Assoc. The family would like to sincerely thank the Sun Prairie Health Care Center for their kindness and excellent care provided during his stay.
