Joe Kaltenberg Sr., age, 82 passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his home with his family near. He was born on July 26, 1929 in Waunakee to Joseph and Anna (Hellenbrand) Kaltenberg. He was united in Marriage to Rita Niesen on March 29, 1951 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Martinsville. Joe and Rita worked together farming in the DeForest area until they retired in 1995. They enjoyed traveling, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Joe loved hunting and was an avid sports fan. He especially loved watching the Packers, Badgers and Brewers.
He is survived by his wife, Rita of 60 years; 7 children, Joseph Jr. (Karen) of Cottage Grove, Lois (Rodney) Gross of Sun Prairie, Cheryl of Sun Prairie, William (JoAnn) of Wichita, KS, Jeffery (Melenie Treffert) of DeForest, Dale (Angie) of Windsor and Kim (Paul) Marks of Fall River; a son-in-law, Pete Grobschmidt of Winter; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Jane Kaltenberg of Waunakee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; Joyce Grobschmidt and infant daughter, Judy; 2 grandchildren, Keith Kaltenberg and Necole Marks; 2 sisters Agnes Ziegler and Martha Meier; 2 brothers Francis and Edward; 2 brothers-in-law, Richard Ziegler and Eugene Meier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in East Bristol. Father Rob Butz will preside A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St., Sun Prairie and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. A rosary will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The family would like to thank the staff of Agrace Hospice for their wonderful care of Joe during his illness. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made St. Joseph's Parish “Raise the Roof Fund” or Agrace Hospice in Joe's memory.
Dad through it all, your faith and strength never wavered. As you said many times, “You play the hand your dealt”.
Thank you dad for everything you taught us and have done for us. We will never forget what a great husband, Dad and grandpa you were. We love you and miss you!
