Joseph W. Kaltenberg, Jr., age 70 passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at home in Cottage Grove. Joe was born on May 4, 1953 in Madison to Joseph Sr. and Rita (Niesen) Kaltenberg. He married, Karen Bollig on December 15, 1973 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Joe farmed his entire life. He enjoyed instigating shenanigans with his grandchildren. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time at the lake house and playing cards.
Joe is survived by: 3 daughters, Vicki (Mike) Wachtendonk of Bloomer, Joanne (Blair) Kitelinger of Prairie du Sac, and Laura Escoto of Bloomer; grandchildren, Justin (Brenna) and Eric Wachtendonk, Dominick Escoto, Payton and Amelia Kitelinger; siblings, Lois (Rod) Gross, Cheryl Kaltenberg of Sun Prairie, and Bill (JoAnn) Kaltenberg of Columbus, Jeff Kaltenberg (Melanie Treffert) of Poynette, Dale Kaltenberg of DeForest, and Kim (Paul) Marks of Fall River; a brother-in-law Pete Grobeschmidt of Winter additionally he is survived by his friend Kay Weisensel.
He was preceded in death by his: parents; wife Karen; a son Keith Kaltenberg; sister, Joyce Grobeschmidt; and niece, Necole Marks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 229 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Father Vince Brewer presiding. Burial will be at Medina Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie and from 10:00a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts Building Fund
