John T. Speropulos, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at home. He was born on March 3, 1926 in Madison to Theodore and Rose (Pizzo) Speropulos. He graduated from Madison East High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from July of 1944 to June of 1946. John married Esther Stromski on October 30, 1947 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison and spent over 70 years together. He owned a bar in Madison called Johnny’s Silver Star. He was a barber for over 30 years, owning John’s Barber Shop in Madison. John also loved traveling, Camping, his yard and fixing things.
John is survived by his 6 children; Alan Speropulos (Nancy Motisi) of Madison, Karen Moon of Marshall, Carolyn (Rick) Griffin of Cambridge, Joan (Kent) Sutkay of Burlington, Jayne (Mark) Vivian of Fitchburg, Mike (Marilyn) Speropulos of Trinity, FL; 17 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Esther in 2018; two sisters, Annebelle Matthews and Genevieve Hilgendorf; a brother James and son-in-law Lloyd Moon. A private graveside will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Madison.
