John E. Leonard, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, veteran, friend and “Uncle Silly” passed away peacefully on February 15, 2011 at the Hospice facility located in Fitchburg with family by his side.
John was born to James and Dorothy Leonard on July 17, 1944.
John was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served from 1963 to 1967. After serving his country in Taiwan and Pakistan he then came back to the states and went to college at UW. He then joined the work force of D'Onofrio Kottke & Associates as a draftsman where he worked for almost 40 years. A self taught guitarist, John was always a member of a band since high school, including his years in the military. He is best known for being part of The Noteables band for over 25 years playing guitar and singing.
John is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Patrick. He is survived by ex-wife Linda Leonard of Sun Prairie, WI; a daughter Patricia Kitelinger of Sun Prairie; grandson Brandon Kitelinger, sisters, Sue (Jim) Triplehorn of Raliegh, NC, Nancy (Richard) Dickens of Tucson, AZ, Jane (Bill) Modes of Kansas City, MO and numerous loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family is holding a private ceremony, but would like to invite everyone who knew John to celebrate his life “Irish Wake” style at West Side Business Association Located at 3706 Junction Road, Madison WI on February 24, 2011 beginning at 5 pm.
