Ivan George Anders, 82, of Sun Prairie, WI passed away July 9, 2014, in his home.
Ivan was born on July 22, 1931 in Waukesha, WI to Pearl and Jessie Anders as the youngest of 7 children.
Ivan graduated from Waukesha High School in 1950. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 1951 after completing basic training, Ivan married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Curry at the Mission of San Juan Capistrano, California.
Ivan was deployed immediately to Korea during the war as a Tank Commander with the 1st Marine Division. He completed his tour of duty in Portsmouth, NH and then returned home to Wisconsin. In 1956, Ivan became a Trooper with the Wisconsin State Patrol. He rose through the ranks eventually attaining the rank of Captain and Commanding District 1 Headquarters in Madison. During his time with the Patrol, he became a firearms instructor and Team leader of the State Patrol Pistol team winning many State and National Competitions. Ivan was a distinguished graduate of the FBI National Academy. He was also a former alderman on the Sun Prairie City Council.
He retired from the State Patrol in 1982 after serving for 26 years. Ivan loved to golf, spending some of his retirement years playing and traveling around the US. He also worked with his son, Stuart at his business, Allied Industries from 1994 until he retired “again” in 2009.
Ivan is survived by his wife Patricia of 63 years, his 5 children, Steve (Sheryl) of Cottage Grove; Cathy, (Tom) Kabat of Manitowoc; Deb Turnell of Madison; Scott, (Jean) of Flower Mound, Texas; Stuart, (Barb) of Sun Prairie; his sister Betty (George) Venes of Waukesha; 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ray, Virgil, Dean, Jesse, sister Doreen and son-in-law Jon Turnell.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Home of Stuart and Barb Anders in Sun Prairie, WI on August 7, 2014 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sun Prairie Food Pantry.
