Hilmer “Bud” Borchert, age 91 passed away at St. Mary's Hospital on Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was born on April 28, 1925 in Marshall and was the son of William and Hilda (Hoene) Borchert. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 in the South Pacific. He was accompanied by son Bruce on the Badger Honor Flight in 2012. Bud moved to Sun Prairie in 1949 and became the city's first letter carrier. He married Marilyn Gorsline on July 13, 1946. He married Ellie (Scharine) Meske on September 2, 1978.
Bud was a Sun Prairie Volunteer Fireman for 33 years and Fire inspector for 25 years. He was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He was also a member of DAV, the American Legion Post #333 and V.F. W. Post 9362.
He is survived by his wife, Ellie; children, Bonnie (Dean) Hulsizer, Bill (Susan), Betty (Tom) Showers, Bruce (Trish), Beverly (Dave) Nelson, Barry (Sharyn), Bernie (Nancy), Brad (Donna), Brenda Sanford (Kevin Seymour), Scott Meske; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and the Coon Family.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Marilyn in 1976, a son Mark Meske; 2 brothers, Willard and Daniel; a sister Lila Strasburg.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Drive in Sun Prairie. Pastor Dan Dibbert will preside. Burial will be held at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Friday.
