Helen R. Calkins

Helen R. Calkins, age 88, died on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at her home. She was born on August 27, 1921 in Portage and was the daughter of Earl and Estella (O’Malley) Peterson. She married Hiram Calkins in 1941 in Portage. Helen lived at Colonial View Apartments where she was a volunteer driver for many years. She was also a member of St. Ann’s Alter Society.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Larry (Kay), Dennis (Kathy) both of Sun Prairie; 2 sisters, Virginia Kaech of Sun Prairie, Mary (Robert) Joachim of Madison; 7 grandchildren, Kristin (Mike) Maly, Mark Calkins, Mike (Ann) Calkins, Ty (Kathy) Calkins, Tracy (Dan) Henderson, Jay (Cari) Calkins, Brett Calkins; 12 great grandchildren, Morgan and Logan Maly, Carly Calkins, Torrey, Bradley, Mariah and Kaeden Calkins, Allison and Erin Calkins, Zachary and Jacob Henderson, and Christian Calkins; also many cousins and friends. Helen loved her family and grandchildren. They were all special to her. We will all miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Hiram in 1979; a sister, Eleanor Skare; a brother, Raymond Peterson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Interment will be held at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Dane County Humane Society.
