Gregory Leroy Kreisler, 75, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg after complications from a recent bout of pneumonia and a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Greg was born April 3, 1941 in Madison, the youngest of five to Leroy and Nina (Thompson) Kreisler. He grew up in Monona and graduated from Monona High School in 1959. Upon graduation, Greg joined the US Navy and served for three years, being stationed most of that time in Japan. When he returned to Wisconsin, he lived in Madison and worked for Madison Gas and Electric. In 1968 he married the love of his life, Delores Jesberger, with whom he had two children. After moving later that year to Poynette, he began working for the Department of Natural Resources, which he loved. Greg started at the Game Farm and ten years later he transferred to the MacKenzie Environmental Center, from where he retired in 1999. Shortly after he and Delores moved to her hometown of Sun Prairie. Retirement didn't prove exciting enough for Greg, so he took a part-time job with the Prairie Athletic Club, where he met many new friends. He continued working there until the summer of 2014.
Greg enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, hiking and traveling. He had a compassionate heart for animals, especially dogs. Greg's favorite pets have included two black Labradors, Sam and Corky, and most recently a pint-sized Bichon mix, Buppy. He enjoyed Badger Saturdays and Packer Sundays. Greg was a true conservationist and loved sharing his knowledge about wildlife. He also had a great sense of humor and was a fabulous storyteller, whether a true story or a tall tale.
Greg is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Delores; two children, Angela (Scott) Smith of Oregon and Todd (Nicole) Kreisler of Waukesha; seven grandchildren, Michaela and Jake Williamson, Jordan and Cole Kreisler, Asher, Boden, and Kya Smith; two brothers, Kerry (Helen) of Cannon Falls, MN and Randall of Adams-Friendship; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Arlene Hanson and Judith McElroy.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert Drive in Sun Prairie, with Msgr. Terry Connors officiating.
Greg touched so many lives. To his wife he was a soulmate and devoted husband; to his children he was a teacher and loving father; to his grandchildren he was an influence and caring Pappy; to his siblings he was a role model and sensitive brother; to his nieces and nephews he was an inspiration and attentive uncle; and to his friends he was loyal, engaging and welcoming. Greg will be dearly missed, yet his wisdom, love and support will live on in our hearts forever. We lost an amazing man…God received a perfect angel.
