George D. Marick, age 90, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at Nazareth House in Stoughton. He was born on January 30, 1926 in Eau Claire and was the son of Phil and Rose (Ramharter) Marick. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1944 and entered the Army after graduation. He served 2 years and was stationed in Germany during WWII, after service he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN for 2 years and mastered in Construction. He married Elizabeth Gmeinder on May 16, 1953 in Roxbury. George came to Madison and eventually formed his own construction company. He built many homes in the Cottage Grove area. He loved to build.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Elizabeth; his 10 children, Patricia (Tom) Marick-Sperry, Jean (Michael) Schraufnagel, Barbara Pearson, Linda Ande, Catherine Marick, Joan (John) Fulcer, Mary (Tom) Weisensel, Joseph (Tracy) Marick, John Marick, Susan (Daron) Marick-Ker; 18 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Fred Marick and Gerald (Barbara) Marick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Lucille Kramer, Dorothy Germain; a brother Robert; his father and mother-in-law Urban and Irma Gmeinder; brothers-in-law Joseph and George Gmeinder and a son-in-law Charles Ande.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 434 N. Main Street in Cottage Grove with Father Randy Budnar Presiding. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Cottage Grove Cemetery.
