Gary D. Squires, age 57, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at his home after a 3 year battle with squamous cell Cancer of the tonsil. He was born on August 5, 1955 in Baraboo and was the son of Shirlee and Carol (Rooney) Squires. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1973. He moved to Sun Prairie and married Karen Ratzlow in 1976. Together they had 2 children Jason and Tara. He was very proud of his children. He married Jennifer Ott-Coughlin on April 24, 1998 and became a second dad to Christopher, Caitlin and Eric.
Gary retired from Goodyear/Veyance Technologies in June of 2012 after working in various positions for 34 years. He enjoyed golfing, campfires, card games, softball, traveling, watching sports, music, Brewer games and casino trips with his many friends. He could grill up a mean batch of ribs and was a champion bean bag tosser. He also loved family get togethers and watching his 3 grandsons grow. He left us way too soon.
Gary is survived by his wife Jennifer; his Mom, Carol Lanzendorfer; his children, Jason (Mallory Benzine) Squires, Tara (Todd) Dobberfuhl, Christopher Coughlin, Caitlin (Niels) Peterson, Eric (Abby Venden) Coughlin; 3 grandchildren, Jamison and Christian Dobberfuhl, Nicholas Peterson; sister, Kathy (Al) Green and their daughter Heather (Gary) Harnack, Abby and Chase; brothers, John (Jeanne) Squires and Clint, Scott (Kelli) Squires and Haley; in-laws, Bud (Virginia) Ott, Laurie (Darryl) Link, Matt and Josh, Cindy (Loren Glasbrenner) Ott, Emma and Riley, Amy (David) Link, Ryan, Adam and Tanathan, Joseph (Lisa) Ott, Sam, Dan, Chase, Tyler, Olivia and Natalie, Dan (Jean) Ott, Kiersten and Hayden and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Shirlee; his step father, Glenn Lanzendorfer and nephew, Michael Squires.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie with Chaplain Dennis Richards presiding. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Jen would like to thank her and Gary's family and friends for their exceptional help and support. Also, Thanks to Drs. Paul Schmidt and Jason Isenberg, Glenn Applegate, Edward Prendergast and all of the technicians and nurses at Turville Bay and Dean Oncology.
