Fred E. Ross, age 91 Passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital. He was born on April 17, 1932 to Edward and Goldie (Erickson) Ross from Poynette. He graduated from Poynette High School in 1950. On November 15, 1952 he married Janet Eulberg of Portage.
He served his country in the US Airforce as a radio operator on a C119 cargo plane from 1952-1956. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force,
Fred and his family moved to Portage for a short time. In 1957 they moved to Sun Prairie and he took a job with Tri-State Breeders. After that, he tried many careers until he found his calling as an electrical contractor and founded Ross Electric. It has remained in business for over 50 years and is now Ross Electric, Inc. headed up by his son Pat.
He was always very ambitious and had many projects going-one of which was the original Sun Prairie hockey rink, of which he was an owner. He also built, ran and sold seven “Jolly Jingles” trucks which sold ice cream bars and other treats around town. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fishing and especially taking his two daughters to the father/daughter party at the SP Lion’s Club. He made many family trips and he also took his three sons and son-in-law on annual weekend fishing trips. He and Janet, and sometimes friends, traveled extensively abroad as well as around the US.
He was a member of the American Legion, The Sun Prairie VFW, Sun Prairie Lion’s Club and a 68 year member of the Madison Elks Club.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Janet, his two daughters Lee (Jim)
Kessenich of SP, Marian (Joe) Ross of Reno, NV; his three sons, Mike (Julie) Ross of SP, Pat (Karen) Ross of SP and Dan (Debbie) Ross of Madison; his four grandchildren Matthew Kinblad of Benicia, CA, Amanda (Chris) Kinblad of Sandy, UT, Samantha (Mark) Sahf of SP and Austin Ross of Fitchburg; and one great grandson Ben Brown of Sandy, Utah. He is also survived by his brother Les (Sue Ann) Ross of Holmen, his
sister, Judy Lantis of Billenham, WA; his brothers-in law, David and Peter
Eulberg of Portage, and a sister-in-law, Judy Eulberg of Portage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Adam Ross and his sister Fanny (Bill) Marquart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert’s Drive in Sun Prairie with Father Michael Johnson will preside. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St Albert the Great Catholic Church or the Sun Prairie Food Pantry.
