Elmore W. Schulenburg, age 95, passed away Monday February 24, 2014 at Prairie Gardens in Sun Prairie. He was the son of Henry and Elsie (Thielke) Schulenburg, born on May 11, 1918 in Middleton. He married Marion Fassbender on August 26, 1944 in Sauk City and Helen Maly November 26, 1988. Elmore farmed most of his life. He worked for the U.S. Post Office from 1954 to 1979. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed cards, dancing, sports and traveling.
He is survived by 5 children, James (Mary), Jean (John) Warren, Mary (Steve) Heiman, Jon (Colleen Korn) and Julie (Mike) Ross; 11 grandchildren, Staci (Mario) Altuzar, Steven Schulenburg, Tina, Beth, Bill and Mike Warren, Jakob Heiman, Joshua (Nicole) Schulenburg, Justin and Shayla Schulenburg, Austin Ross; 2 great grandchildren, Jordian and Lucas Schulenburg; 1 brother Melvin; a sister, Carol (Neil) Gates; sister-in-law Louise, many nieces, nephews and Helen's family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion in 1983; grandson David Schulenburg in 2003; wife Helen in 2011; a brother Laverne in 2012 and numerous brothers / sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie, and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Saturday. Memorials can be given to Sacred Hearts Cemetery Perpetual Care or the Colonial Club. The family would like to thank Prairie Gardens Assisted Living staff, Dr. Gubbles, U.W. ENT Clinic staff and GHC East Clinic staff for their loving care.
