Dorothy Ann (Offerdahl) Schey, age 90 passed away at Oakwood Village East in Madison on Friday, June 29, 2018. She was born on April 3, 1928, the fifth of eight children born to Percy and Eda (Furseth) Offerdahl in rural Stoughton. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church Stoughton, where she served as Sunday school teacher for several years. She was a graduate of Stoughton High School and Columbia County Normal School; and was an elementary school teacher at Waubesa School of Blooming Grove. She was united in marriage to Eugene Schey of Sun Prairie on June 21, 1952. They left soon after to make their home in Vallejo, CA, where Eugene was serving in the USAF stationed at Travis Air Force Base. They returned to Sun Prairie in September 1954 where they made their home for 60 years.
Dorothy was secretary/treasurer of Diesel Injection Service, Inc. of Sun Prairie, a company her husband founded in 1961. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie. She and her husband enjoyed traveling abroad and taking several cruises, followed by traveling throughout the United States in their motorhome. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was always there for her family.
She is survived by her husband Eugene of 66 years; 2 daughters Nancy (Marty Senger) Nelson, of Merrimac and Kari (Ron Nelson) Breunig of Madison; 5 grandchildren Kaitlin (Peter) Bailen of Appleton, Kyia (Adam Gallus) Nelson of Merrimac, Nicole (Phil Tucker) of Madison, Nathan (Kristie Meyer) Breunig of Cross Plains, Danielle (Dan) Swift of Middleton; 9 great-grandchildren, Bryson and Jackson Bailen, Gwendolyn, Penelope and Veronica Tucker, Madison Breunig, Morgan, Mason, and Zachary Swift; and step great-granddaughter Josie Tucker; sister Lucille (Robert) Westervelt of Madison; brother Phillip (Donna) Offerdahl of Conover; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, whose American Family was portrayed in the book “Families of America” by George Sessions Percy. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Kara Nelson; son-in-law Donald Nelson; 2 brothers Arnold and Robert; and sisters Aileen Richardson, Marion Wright and Ruth Bakke.
Dorothy and her husband have been supporters of many local projects; Kara Nelson Study Tower at the Sun Prairie Public Library, Schey Commons, and bleachers for the swimming pool located in the Sun Prairie High School to name a few.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Drive in Sun Prairie. Pastor Tim Hansen will preside. Burial will be held at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie. “You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, and the delights of your right hand forever.” Psalm 16:11
