Donald “Donnie” William Statz, 74, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, passed away, Friday, February 15, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Donnie was born November 10, 1938 in Martinsville, Wisconsin to George and Clara (Zander) Statz. He married Shirley Krantz on April 24, 1962 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pine Bluff. He was an active member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church and attended the school as a young man. He served on the Parish Council, Buildings and Ground Committee, and as a Eucharistic Minister. He assisted as an honorary member on the Sun Prairie Business and Education Partnership. He also was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Donnie leaves a legacy of honor and dignity by his example of hard work, faith in God and respect for others. With the love of his life, Shirley, by his side, they began their journey. Together, they enjoyed raising their children, spoiling their grandchildren and growing their family farm. Donnie also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, dancing, and attending his grandchildren's events.
Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley, his four children, Joe (Lisa), Jackie (Dean) Manthe, Jill (Mark) Schroeder and Joy(Kurt) Van Remortel, his ten grandchildren, Zach, Austin, Tia, Drew, Taylor, Mitchell, Jacob, Carly, Nina and Josie, siblings Tom (Beverly), Catherine Keller, Phyllis (Ivan) Frank, Richard (Veronica), James (Kathleen), Roger (Betty), mother-in-law Florence Krantz, his brothers and sisters in-law, Jan Legler(Jim Fiscus), Ron (Deborah) Krantz, Elaine (Tom) Walstad, Joe (Pat) Krantz, Winnie Kaschub (Leo Gundrum) and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny, father-in-law Ray Krantz, sister-in-law Terri Statz, brothers in-law, Ron Legler, and George (Butch)Kaschub.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, February 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie, with Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt, Father John Silva and Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Visitation will be held in the church Tuesday, February 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. You may also visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Burial will follow at the Sacred Hearts Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Sacred Hearts Buildings and Ground Fund.

Dearest Uncle Donnie, I have many fond memories from our visits up here. Donnie was a truly good man, a dear and well-loved friend. He was always ready to listen, to laugh, to be positive and loving. I rode in the combine with him one day, to find out why he loved going up and down the field for hours on end. I found that it was his love of Nature, his love of farming, his love for all the creatures and living things of God's creation. If every wife had a husband who loved her as much as Donnie loves Shirley, and children and grandchildren had such a father and grandfather, no one would ever be short of love in their lives. We are school mates to Donnie. we both grow up on the farm and know how much hard work there is to farming. We are in New Zealand touring and fishing, once back home in Henderson, Nevada at our winter home we will be in contacct with the family.
