Donald Jones

East Chicago, Indiana————-Donald L. Jones, age 78, passed away on February 24, 2024. He was born on January 5, 1946 in Hammond, Indiana. He married Barbara Grasha. Don is survived by his children, George (Kim) Jones, Deborah (Todd) Newcomer, Erin (Joe) Tuttle, Stacy (Christopher Malgaret) Jones, and Ashley (Bill Knuepfer) Jones; grand-children, Logan, Thomas, Michael, Preston, Ella, Josie and Jackson; siblings, Bea Rice, Cathy Groeninger, Tom Jones and Jim (Barbara) Jones; his loyal companion Buddy “Red” Jones.

Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara; parents, Lawrence and Catherine Jones; siblings, Helen Colbert and Lynn Jones.

He graduated from Hammond Tech High School. After high school, Don enlisted and proudly served in the United States Airforce. He retired from Amoco-BP in Whiting, Indiana as a pipe fitter. Don’s family was his pride and joy, but he also had many hobbies. Don loved boating, hunting, fishing, and tinkering on projects. Don had a heart of gold. He is going to be remembered and missed by all who knew him. To know him was to love him.

Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 3-7 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, Indiana. Don will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Barbara at St. John St. Joseph Cemetery. Burial services will be private.
