Donald James Rortvedt, age 57, died in a single car accident June 25, 2015. He was born April 26, 1958 in Sun Prairie, the son of Charles and Joan (Skalitzky) Rortvedt. He was married on October 27, 2001 to Cynthia Knaack and they lived in Milton. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years Cindy; parents Charles and Joan Rortvedt; daughter Carlae; grandchildren Makei, Bradell and Blossom; brothers Mike (Nanette), John (Kaia), David, Eric (Jean), Robert (Janet); sisters Lene' (Tom Heise), Susan (Jack Dekkers), Colleen (Kerry Williams); grandfather Theodore Rortvedt; step-children Chase and Sommer Herro, and step-grandchildren Caleb, Zackary and Hayden Sophia; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by grandmother Alice Rortvedt; grandparents George and Edna Skalitzky; father-in-law Clarence Knaack Sr.; brothers-in-law Roger and Jeff Knaack.
Don cherished his memories of time on the farm with family, aunts, uncles and cousins. He also enjoyed spending time on the water with his family and friends whether fishing the Great Lakes, boating on the Mississippi or recently taking a leisure cruise on their pontoon.
Over the years he worked as a chef, cabinet maker, and cheese salesman. His first job as a short order cook at McGovern's led to a life-long love of cooking. His barbequed ribs were the best!!! Don volunteered on the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. He also served on Angell Park's Park Board for several years.
Don will be dearly missed by family and many good friends especially Steve and Renee Knaus, Dave and Cathy Schmidt, Dave and Marlene Spencer, Dean and Bonnie Hulsizer and Jeff and Jane Nehmer.
