Della Rose Schroedl passed into eternal life on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, while residing at Azura Memory Care in Stoughton, Wisconsin.
Della Rose (Sukowatey) Schroedl was born August 30, 1920, near Pine Bluff, Wisconsin. She is the daughter of the late Mathias and Rose (Haag) Sukowatey. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Pine Bluff. At the age of 19, she began working in Madison in meal preparation and housekeeping for various professional families. Later she was employed at Walgreen's, Madison, and at the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union Food Service.
On July 20, 1943, she married Franics A. Schroedl at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pine Bluff, during his service in the U.S. Army in World War II.
When she and Francis farmed near Oregon, WI, Della worked at the Carnes Air Conditioning Company near Verona. Later when she and Francis lived near Lake Mills, she worked at Hamlin Inc. and at Libby McNeil on a seasonal/part-time basis. While living in Sun Prairie, she was employed at the Wisconsin Cheeseman during the pre-Christmas season.
She is survived by her five loving children: Ronald (Susan) Schroedl, Lake Mills, Rose Wilkes, (friend, John Leszczynski) Elmhurst, IL, Eileen (Richard) Deinlein, Jefferson, Dennis (Darlene) Schroedl, DeForest, and Paul (Roxanne) Schroedl, Waterloo; nine grandchildren: Kelli (Paul) Dercks, Chris (Shawn) Schroedl, Timothy Schroedl (friend, Jerzey), Lisa Deinlein (friend, Paul Albright), Tara (Dan) Topel, Cheryl (Kareem) Al-Bassam, Travis (Brenda) Ricco, Stephanie Kearns (friend, Matt) and Melissa (Eric) Schowalter; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Sukowatey, Mt. Horeb; a sister, Theresa Flaig, Mt. Horeb, a special friend and sister-in-law, Lillian Schroedl (friend, Lorraine Meythaler), Madison; a sister-in-law, Sandi Schroedl, Appleton; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis A. Schroedl; two brothers, Henry Sukowatey (who died while serving his country during WWII), and Arthur (Genevieve) Sukowatey; a brother-in-law, Joe Schroedl; a sister-in-law, Eleanore Sukowatey; and a brother-in-law, Alfred Flaig.
She was a member of Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in Sun Prairie; also was a member of the St. Zita Womens' Circle of Sacred Hearts. Her special artistic talents included her beautiful embroidery skills, sewing, calligraphy, lovely penmanship and writing abilities: she had a love of and appreciation for music; also was an excellent cook. In her later years, Della stayed busy participating in various activities and volunteering at Colonial View Independent Living. She enjoyed life and was active with her daily walks. She especially loved her family and all people, always seeing the good in each person she knew. She was a gracious, gentle lady who expressed appreciation and kindness; and was a prayerful person who knew and loved her Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012, at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church, 221 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie, with Fr. John Silva officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, with a rosary and vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie, and again on Monday at church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
