David Engleson passed away at the age 84 peacefully on August 10, 2011.
Dave was born on May 9, 1928 to Albert and Lucille Engleson. After graduating from Beloit High School in 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy. In 1950 he married Marguerite (Peg) Resler. The couple had four children – Richard, Catherine (Sean), Christine, and Michael (Kari).
He earned degrees from UW-Madison and the University of Michigan. After teaching in numerous public schools and training future teachers, Dave became Wisconsin's first Environmental Education Consultant in 1967 for the Department of Public Instruction. Over his career, his many accomplishments included authoring A Guide to Curriculum Planning in Environmental Education, which won numerous awards and was reprinted in both Chinese and Japanese He was a founder of the Wisconsin Association of Environmental Education. Dave served on the Advisory Council of the Sigurd Olson Institute in Ashland, and continued his commitment to environmental causes as a dedicated volunteer with the Ice Age Trail Alliance.
Survivors include his wife Peg, his children, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
The family thanks Dr. Gregory Motl and the staff of the Willows Nursing Facility for their outstanding care. A private burial will be held at Sun Prairie Memory Garden. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education or the Ice Age Trail Alliance.
