Seems like yesterday Chris and I walked to school on occassions when it was not too cold outside to walk. She was a nice person and is missed by friends and family I am sure. We had our chats and laughs, and her sense of humor was great.

Chris was a reflection of her loving family. I remember many funny moments driving back to UW-Whitewater with Nancy, Kevin and Chris. I temember us teasing Chris that she is the only person that needs to speed up while drivng when it says slow down to 50 around a curve. Threre was zero chance of a Chis receiving a speeding ticket! Ahhh...just more time to talk and laugh in the car. God bless!

Over 30 years ago, Chris would often sit for our then young three boys. If Chris wasn't able to sit, she would make sure one of her siblings could. Chris was an excellent sitter. It was already evident during her teenage years what a very genuinely caring person she was becoming. To Chris' loved ones and close friends, Please accept our deepest sympathy. May all the love you shared for Chris unite you in helping each other through such heartbreaking sorrow. God bless.

I remember her as being very nice person. She is the kind of person who will be missed deeply. These kind of things are sometimes hard to figure out. May God Bless your entire family! For someone who joked she "hated fun", she sure was fun and will be so greatly missed! Many of our best SH memories include time spent in room 102 with Mrs. Kovalaske and little chats as she so often greeted all who entered and exited SH. It was a true blessing that all 3 of our children had the opportunity to have her as a teacher becuase she made them feel loved and as if they were with family when they were at school. What an AMAZING WOMAN! Benett (former student, now in 8th grade) will always remember how much Chris liked it when the boys dressed up. He and other boys in the class started dressing up for church on Wednesday because of how happy it made her! After learning of her passing he and others at CHUMS who has her all dressed up in her memory. Josie (former student, now in 6th grade) never really left 1st grade! She came back to Mrs. Kovalaske's room often to help her, chat with her and just hang out. She said one of her proudest moments was when Mrs. Kovalaske named a calf after her. Davis (former student, now in 2nd grade) loved Mrs. Kovalaske so so much too! He came with us to help in the classroom with the other kids and he couldn't wait to get there too! Davis' favorite memory of Mrs. Kovalaske was that she taught him to tie is shoes in one day when no one else could! God Bless - The Halbleib Family

We are so very sorry for your loss. Heaven did truly gain a great angel, and a teacher, who always taught her class Christian values. Jacob smiled when I had him share a special memory of Mrs. Kovalaske. He giggled, and said he loved when Mrs. Kovalaske would "lock the door when a class mate would go to the bathroom." He said it always made the class giggle, and oh, the classmate locked out would always laugh too! Your Sacred Hearts Family will miss you terribly! Thank You for the memories we will keep with us forever! The Schroeder Family; Mark, Jill, Mitch, Jacob

My heart goes out to the Kovalaske family, and my Sacred Hearts family for the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Chris. I had the privilege to know Chris and work with her for five years...I always looked forward to coming down from the "upstairs" to visit the 1st graders to see how their chicks were doing! And who can't forget the hayrides at the farm! Heaven gained a great teacher today, but more importantly a great person.

Our school is such a close community, and when something like this happens, it is so shocking and sad. She was exactly the right sort of teacher for our son in such a critical, formative year in school. For that we are grateful. To her family, wouldn't it be powerful if you could see all of the prayers, well wishes and gratitude for Chris streaming toward all of you? Surely you can feel it. We hope you are able to accept this, and begin to heal with each passing day.
Lori (Klein) Hughes left a message on January 21, 2015:

Prayers to Chris's family and to the Sacred Hearts Family. Heaven gained a truly great person.

My prayers go out to the Kovalaske family. I went to high school with Chris. She and I played clarinet in the Sound of Sun Prairie marching band. We had some great times...she and her good friend Mary Ringelstetter even talked me out of quitting marching band one summer. Those two were always a hoot to be around. I can still see Chris's smile and remember her laugh. In later years I got to know Chris's sister-in-law Lori and also Chris's nephew Bryce who is also my son's bestfriend.
