Charles P. Treige, age 91, passed away peacefully with his family and dear friends at his home on Thursday, September 10, 2015. He was born on December 14, 1923 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada to Emil and Mary (Grof) Treige.
Charles (Charlie) proudly served in the Canadian Army during World War II from 1940 – 1945. He was an infantryman that participated in the European Theatre, including D-DAY– the Allied invasion of German occupied France in the Normandy landing on June 6, 1944. After the war, he moved to Toronto, where he met the love of his life Rita MacNeil. They were united in marriage in 1950 and moved to the United States (Sun Prairie, WI) in 1952 where they raised their family. Charlie worked at the Wisconsin Porcelain Company while attending night school at Madison College. He successfully completed course work in tool & die and eventually became a Journeyman. In 1958 he bought his own company, Knabe Tool Works, Inc. in Madison. He worked and grew the business until he retired in 1985. He and Rita spent their remaining years together traveling throughout the US and Canada visiting family and friends until Rita's passing in 1989. In 1992, he married Margaret Rose, they enjoyed their time together as snowbirds in Arizona; and visiting Canada and Sun Prairie in the summertime.
Throughout his life, Charlie's main focus was always his family. He will be remembered as a loving, gregarious, and generous man. He will be missed by all who knew him.
