Charles “Charlie” D. Varco, age 70, passed away on Saturday November 25, 2017 at UW Hospital with his wife Sue at his side. He braved a very long struggle battling his diagnosis of Mantle Cell Lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma since last March. Charlie was born to Charles and Elizabeth (Angle) Varco in LaCrosse on August 18, 1947. He graduated from Center High School in 1965 and attended Wisconsin College from 1966-1968. Charlie married Susan Achammer on July 20, 1984 at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in Sun Prairie.
Charlie served in the US Air Force from 1969-1972. He was an employee of Diesel Injection Service from 1976-2009, starting out as a technician, then moved into sales, and finished his career as Vice President of Technical Services. Charlie had a love of nature and the outdoors, after retirement he and his wife spent numerous hours hiking in state and county parks, the Ice Age Trails and other wildlife preserves. It was a wonderful experience offering an appreciation of awesome scenery, panoramic views and natural wildlife of WI. A favorite was the Aldo Leopold Foundation, Baraboo.
He is survived by his wife Sue; sisters Lynne (Gary) Baron of Eugene, OR, Beth (Bill) Bradford of Wayne, MI, and Signe (Al) Adas of Evanston, IL; sister-in-law Jeaneen (Richard) Lettman of Fitchburg /Madison and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again. No longer by my side, but forever in my heart.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie. Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt will preside. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Thursday.
Thanks to the Carbone Cancer Center, 1 South Park, and UW Hospital doctors and staff for their support through this battle. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Carbone Cancer Center or charity of your choice.

Sue, I am so very saddened to hear this news of Charlies passing. It is difficult to accept. My thoughts are with you, Beth, Sig and Lynne at this difficult time. We were great childhood friends. Charlie was a wonderful guy. I considermyself blessed to have know him and to have served in the Air Force with him.

My condolences to the family and friends, co-workers, while I didn't know Charlie personally, it is always sad to lose a member of the Diesel Forward Family!

So sad to learn of Charlies passing, he truly was one the 'Good Guys' in our industry. He was always generous with his time and knowledge and shared his experience with any who asked for it. A very good man and a wonderful human being. Any one who knew him was the better for it.

So sorry to hear of Charlie passing , he was a great teacher to many including me!! I always looked forward to visiting with him.

My sympathy to Charlies family. Charle was a great teacher and friend to us, always enjoyed visiting with him!

We cannot control the movement of time, nor can we control our own destiny, or the destinies of those we love.
But we can take comfort in knowing that those who have lived in our hearts are never really gone.
For as long as we keep them with us, in our hearts and thoughts, they will be with us always.
For love, which is timeless, never ceases to exist.

Sue, my dear "pen pal" friend of 56 yrs. we hope the emptiness you feel will eventually be filled with beautiful memories.

Charlie always provided a friendly and informative way whenever we visited at training sessions that he was conducting. My best memory was when he would visit us, we would cook up some barbeque and serve the entire crew. I still have a barbeque sauce recipe I wrote down (because I don't think he ever wrote down his recipes) that we still use today at our home.
