Carolrose Thielman, age 79, passed away on March 24, 2013. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 12, 1933. She lived in Tomahawk from 1955 to 1985, where she farmed, owned and trained horses, and raised her family. Carol was a homemaker and a writer who authored many local newspaper columns and also wrote a novel. She is survived by her three children, Donald (Marilyn) Thielman of Oregon; Laurie (Paul) Lanier of Goochland, Virginia; Darwin (Shannon) Thielman of Madison; 3 grandchildren: Nicholas, Michelle, and Kathleen; her lifelong friends Doris Bauer and Barbara “Babs” Stout, and dear friend and cousin Resi Arnold in Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Rose Stenger.
She always fondly remembered the old-time gang on Paulina Street where she grew up, classmates from Our Lady of Lourdes School, and her many German relatives.
Carolrose adored traveling and adventure; she made many visits to relatives in Germany and carved a new life for herself after her children were raised by moving to California and working as a nanny, counselor, and travel agent. She was particularly grateful to step-niece Jody Ullman who accompanied her on a cross-country Amtrak trip in 2011.
She greatly enjoyed the community life at the Colonial Club in Sun Prairie for the last ten years of her life. She was a tireless organizer of and participant in social events such as the Red Hat Society, the writers club, card club, and the Great Gatsby event. She could frequently be seen on her scooter around town, and was indeed a passionate advocate for accessibility rights for the disabled.
