I’ll never forget my golfing experience with Bernie. I got to see this man use his tee on every shot. And when I say every shot I mean even the ones on the fairway. Bernie, you are one in a million and although we are not related by blood you have always been a part of my family. We will miss you. Love Kris & Angela Witt

I believe...that when you lose a person you love, you gain an angel you know. Oprah Winfrey Deb, you gave me the pleasure of meeting your dad, and shared her adoration of him often as a true touch stone of your life. How blessed you are Deb to have had such a special relationship with your father who will be your angel forever. God Bless dear friend Roz

I can not make the funeral, as my son is in the hospital in Minnesota. Bernie was one of the best Sgt. that I ever worked for and under. He always treated me just like another person and not like he was the supervisor. I worked with Bernie on the Governor's detail and he taught me how to shot a handgun when the Inspector's became armed. Because of his training, I never shot below sharp shooter. Bernie also taught me how to use the shotgun in a hostage situtation. My thought and prayers are with you Susie and the kids and I will never forget Bernie, he was a very special person to me and really treated me with respect even though I was only an Inspector. He was a wonderful person and a dear friend. Thanks for all the memories Bernie.

I have known " Ernie" since I was a year , I use to call him Ernie cause I could never say Bernie. I would sit at the end of my drive way everyday and wait for him to get put of his patrol car and shout out "Hi Ernie". He was the best neighbor ever and will be greatly missed in the neighborhood. Growing up i use to walk across the street daily to bug Bernie until he started calling me p.i.t.a. I quickly caught on to what the stood for. Bernie was the BEST ever. I have LOTS of great memories of Bernie. My family is going to greatly miss .

As a member of the State Patrol I had occasion to work for "Bernie" on numerous details providing security for various dignitaries. He was a joy to work for and with. We all knew where we stood with him and that we were there on that detail because he wanted us there. We all have "Bernie" memories and will miss him always. Loren Raether State Trooper (retired)

Working with Bernie was always a pleasure. When I was a new trooper, I had several occasions to discuss legal issues with Bernie. He always took the time to frame the issues and speak from his experience. He was well liked on the Patrol and the troopers respected him because he was a straight-forward leader. He will be missed by all who knew him. Lt. Patti Hansen, DSP (Retired)
