Bernard J. Muschinski Jr., age 78, died on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He passed away peacefully with family at his side. Congestive heart failure and COPD eventually took his life.
Bernie was born on April 28, 1934, in Milwaukee to Bernard and Sophia (Povlick) Muschinski. He married Suzann Petrick on September 11, 1954, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Plainfield. Bernie owned and operated a gas station in Plainfield for 7 years and then became a Wisconsin State Trooper. He was a sergeant when he retired after 29 years of service on the force. Some of Bernie's proudest times during his career included providing security for Gov. Tommy Thompson. He also travelled out of the country for the first time when he accompanied Lt. Gov. Scott McCallum on an official trip to Russia.
Bernie was an avid deer hunter and loved boating, fishing and the general outdoors. In recent years he travelled the country with his wife by car. He loved the road, especially the back roads.
He is survived by his wife, Suzie, 4 children, Debra (Fred) Betz of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Patricia Muschinski (fiance Clyde) of Milwaukee, Bernard J. Muschinski III of Lake Tahoe, CA, Paul Muschinski of Milwaukee; granddaughters Patience and Lennon Muschinski: 2 sisters, Rita Klusman of Milwaukee and Barbara (Julius) Marolla of Horicon and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Bob and Bill; and a sister, Virginia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2420 St. Albert Drive in Sun Prairie. Monsignor Terrence Connors will preside. A private burial will be at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in Plainfield. A family visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday. The family suggest in lieu of flowers a memorial fund be established.
