Arlene Manthei, 86 passed away on Monday January 6, 2014 at St Mary's Hospital in Madison, with her family at her side. She was born to Robert and Olive Lee September 14, 1927, in Eau Claire. She was a dedicated mother to her 3 children, Sheryl Rudd/Herb (Harrison), Robert Manthei/Charlyce Friday (Morrison, CO) and Cindy Peterson (Sun Prairie). She has 6 grandchildren, April McHugh/Keith (Madison), Christopher Rudd/Rachel (Omaha, NE), Mike Manthei/Kirsten (Brookfield, IL), Jasmyne Boyd/Tim (Cottage Grove), Crystal Rogers/Paul (San Francisco, CA), Jade Peterson (Sun Prairie), and 8 great grandchildren, Kierstin and Carleigh McHugh, Harrison and Julia Manthei, Alexiyah, Isabelle, Ava and Jessilyn Boyd. Arlene also left behind her twin sister Colleen McElwain (Eau Claire).
Arlene was married on October 10, 1947 to Val Manthei Jr for 57 years. She was involved in church activities and was a Brownie & Cub Scout leader when living in Eau Claire. She enjoyed painting, sewing, quilting, and numerous crafts. She loved antiquing and going to rummage sales with her daughters. She also loved her cup of coffee, sweets, ice cream and especially Cappuccino MooLatte's, from the Dairy Queen! Arlene always had a smile on her face, a great sense of humor, and loved life to the fullest.
Arlene has lived in Sun Prairie since 1973. In 2003 she and her husband, Val (deceased), moved into the duplex next door to their daughter Cindy, where she lived happily for ten years. July 2013 she moved to KindredHearts Senior Living in Sun Prairie. Arlene loved her new home, staff and friends.
Her family would like to thank everyone at KindredHearts for their compassion, and making her feel so safe and at home. In Arlene's words, “I love it here! They make me feel like family!” She truly loved everyone there and enjoyed her new found friends. Thank you again for taking such good care of our mom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Olive Lee, her loving husband, Val Manthei Jr, and her son-in-law, Clip Peterson
There will be a Celebration of Life/ Open House from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday January 19, 2014 at KindredHearts Senior Living, 605 Chase Blvd, Sun Prairie.
