Sun Prairie——–Anna Skibicky age 90, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Oak Park Place in Madison. She was born Anna Nogacz on September 1, 1933, in Zolotniky, (Oblast:Ternopil) Ukraine, to Petro and Teklia (Kinach) Nogacz. During WWII, her whole family was taken to work in the German labor camps. After the Allied occupation, they were sponsored by a church group to come to the US, arriving in New York, Ellis Island on March 13, 1951. They settled in the Ukrainian district of Chicago where Anna worked in a factory.
She married Vololdymyr Skibicky on June 14, 1952 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Chicago. They moved to Baraboo, and then Lake Delton, where they operated their motel businesses.
Anna carried on Ukrainian traditions in cooking and baking (torts), embroidering (pillows, doll costumes and shirts/blouses), and crafts (Easter eggs known as “Pysanky”). Her handiwork was shared in school programs, and international folk fairs. As a devout Catholic she spent much time in prayer and at church for Mass, adoration, and prayer meetings. Anna’s generosity extended to sending packages of clothing to Ukraine and South America, along with sponsoring the education of two Ukrainian priests.
Anna is survived by her two children, Vera (Kerry) Page of Sun Prairie, and Uliana (Rich Polenska) of Pardeeville; grandchildren, Kevin and David Page, and Natalie Kozlowski; daughter-in-law Anne Leibold; a sister Mary Wolf; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vole; son Taras; two brothers, Filemon and Vasil Nogacz; and her sister Kornelia Jackiw.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 229 Columbus St., Sun Prairie. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be held in Sacred Hearts Cemetery. Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt will preside.
