Alexander C. “Sonny” Moreth Jr. age 74, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at his home surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Alex was born on February 10, 1940, in Columbus to Alexander Sr. and Viola (Miller) Moreth. He was married to the love of his life Deborah Fisher on October 15, 1984 in Madison.
Alex grew up on his family farm in East Bristol, where he raised dairy, hogs, and other livestock. After meeting his “brown eyed girl” Debbie, they had 4 children and continued farming so the kids could exhibit their animals at various shows throughout the year. Not only did he have a knack for breeding the perfect show animals, he also was an all around hard working “smart-alec” one of a kind amazing man, who devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren who meant the world to him. When he could steal time away from the farm he enjoyed doing everything with his family, including attending auctions, antique tractor shows, horse pulls, tractor pulls, school events and especially fishing rain or shine, (preferably rain).
Alex is survived by his wife of 29 years Debbie; 4 children, Barbara Ann, Karl Wilhem, Angela Marie (Adam) Diels, and Alexandra Viola, all of Sun Prairie; 5 grandchildren, Hailey, Viola, Kylee, Lucas and Mason; and 2 sisters, Jenerose Landphier of Sun Prairie and Marie Lerum of DeForest.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a cousin Francis Moreth; an Aunt Annette Miller; 2 brother-in-laws LeRoy Lerum and Phil Landphier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1935 County Highway V in East Bristol. Father Robert Butz will preside. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie, and from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Monday.
