When I began my career, at City of Madison Traffic Engineering, I was assigned to work with Wally on the big Digger/Derrick truck. He was stern and seemed a bit annoyed that I was not at all familiar with the work or the equipment. It took a few weeks of training, under his watchful eye, but I eventually learned and developed the skills that were necessary for the job. I’m proud to say that I think I earned his respect, though it took a few years! And, he was not one to say it out loud. His experience was invaluable in my becoming a good technician. He could be gruff at times, but also quick to laugh and he had a great laugh. There will be forever memories of him and my time working with him. Rest well old friend.
