Vivian (Scharning) Garde, born on November 18, 1923 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Il to Charles and Gurly passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Sun Prairie Health Care Center.
A resident of Sun Prairie for nearly 50 years; she grew up in Monroe and was a graduate of the High School class of 1941 where she was the prom queen and her classmates recall her deep dimples, intellect and class.
Vivian married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Garde, in December of 1944 while he was on leave from the Army during WWII. In the early years she worked for the Board of Education and Sunstrand Corp. in Rockford Il. After moving to the Madison area she and her husband owned and operated a Ben Franklin Store in Madison. Later she worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Sun Prairie retiring in1986.
Vivian loved her home, family and pets. She was an avid reader and puzzle wizard. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, quick wit, patience and gentle nature.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley; a daughter, Nancy of Madison; a brother Dick (Shirley), a niece, Kamila (Rich) of Long Island, NY; a nephew Craig (Renee) of Jacksonville FL; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Ackerman; nieces Charmel (Steve); Denise (Bob) of Monroe, and Beatrice (Fred) of San Antonio, TX. Her son Curtis and grandson Richard preceded her in death.
A private service will be held at the Sun Prairie Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers mom would want you to consider making a donation to the Dane County Humane Society 5132 Voges Road, Madison 53718, as she loved animals.
