Susan A. Naughton, age 58, passed away peacefully from over a 2 year battle with cancer on Monday, August 1, 2011 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg surrounded by her family. She was born on December 9, 1952 in Chicago, IL and was the daughter of Lester Budz and Geraldine Heraty. She married Darrell Naughton on June 22, 1975 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Glenview, IL. Susan graduated from Western Illinois University where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and was on the Pom Pom squad. She obtained her Masters Degree in 1981 from National College of Education. Susan taught Elementary School at Cumberland School in Des Plaines, IL from 1974 to 1981, she was a teacher and director of “Growing Place” preschool for 17 years located in DeForest and taught Kindergarten at Windsor Elementary School in Windsor. She received the Marion award for Girl Scouts.
She loved spending time with her family, dancing, theatre, traveling, shopping, hot air balloons, cats and knitting but most of all loved teaching.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell, her father of Bushnell, FL; her mother of Elgin, IL; her sons Jonathan and Patrick both of Sun Prairie; a sister Kathleen (Richard) Weinstein of Lake Forest, IL; brothers Thomas of St. Charles, Il, John of Des Plaines, IL. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011 at St Albert the Great Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Father Robert Bales will preside. A private burial will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Friday. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to U. W. Carbone Cancer Center or www. Cholangiocarcinoma.org. Please help us fund research and advocacy for cancer of the bile duct.
