Rita S. Meinholz, age 88, was called to Eternal Life on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 at the Sun Prairie Healthcare Center. She was born on March 28, 1934 in Sun Prairie, and was the daughter of Joseph and Thekla (Weber) Wagner. She married Robert Meinholz on June 21, 1955 in East Bristol.
In 1957, Bob and Rita purchased the farm where they lived for over 60 years. In addition to working on the farm, Rita worked as a waitress for more than 45 years at Herreman’s Supper Club in Sun Prairie. She also worked for ACE Foods in the cafeteria at General Casualty in Sun Prairie. Rita was a longtime member of Madison Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (MDCCW) having served on several committees. She loved attending the National Conventions every year. Rita was also a member of the St. Mary’s Council of Catholic Women/Catholic Ladies of Holy Family. Rita was a high energy, outgoing person who loved meeting new people and making new friends. She loved and supported her family, attending many school and sport functions. Rita spent free time with a crochet hook in her hand making afghans for family and friends and other various items for charities.
Rita is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert; her children, Rosanne (David) Gorder, Rupert (Brenda), Rod, Ruth (David/Stubby) Schuster, Rock (Amy) and Rich (Kristin), 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sr. Joan Wagner, SDS, brothers, Gerald (Darlene), Ronald (Mary), Paul (Dolly), and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucy Kippley, Dick (Bernie) Meinholz, Pat Breunig, Ron (Helen) Meinholz, Judy (Del) Endres, Merlin Breunig and Lloyd Meinholz.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, Joseph, Lucy and Alice Meinholz, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Breunig, Mary Meinholz, and brothers-in-law, Virgil Kippley and Bernard Breunig.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Holy Family Parish/St. Mary’s, 112 S. Beebe St. in Marshall. Father Jorge Miramontes will preside. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 25 from 4 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St. in Sun Prairie and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church on Tuseday. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marshall.
