Richard Earl Saevre, age 92, of Brodhead, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Richard was born in Plymouth Township, Wisconsin, on January 7, 1929, to Isaac and Gladys (Quinn) Saevre. He married Margaret Hanks in Rockford, Illinois on June 24, 1966. Margaret preceded him in death on July 4, 1997, after 31 years of marriage.
Always committed to the land he grew up on, Richard was a dedicated farmer and gardener throughout his life. He also attended Minnesota Bible College and worked for General Motors, retiring after nearly three decades. He was well known for his heart of service, serving God at Footville Church of Christ as an elder and Sunday school teacher, serving his local and global community as a member of Gideon International (Bible Distributing Organization) and as the missions chairman at his church, and serving his country in the Marines during the Korean War.
Richard enjoyed working hard outdoors, having breakfast with friends, reading and doing any kind of puzzle, and eating ice cream with saltine crackers. He loved Wisconsin sports, especially Brewer baseball, as well as his local Parkview High School, always participating in the activities of his children and grandchildren. A consistently calming and comforting presence among both friends and family, Richard was much beloved for his wit and wisdom, and commitment to hospitality and the neighborly care of others. For the last 22 years, Richard shared the same home with his daughter, Ruth, and the same land with his son, Paul, living together on the very same farm where he lived his entire life.
He is survived by his children: Ruth (T-J) Mohr and Paul (Jodi) Saevre; grandchildren: Josiah Mohr, Nathan Mohr, and Sara Mohr; and many from around the world that called him Grandpa; Jessie, Nanako, Lilli, Mamika, Christian, Katya, Papa and Jessica.. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; and brother, Donald. By all he is loved; and by all he shall be missed.
