Richard Edward Dary, Sr., 86, died peacefully Monday, April 16, 2018, at home with his family surrounding him in love. He was born on May 10, 1931 to William and Marie (Kruse) Dary. He married Marion E. (Evert) Dary on May 22, 1954.
Richard served from 1948 to 1952 as a naval seaman. He was involved in active duty aboard the USS Iowa and the USS Manchester during the Korean War. In 2016, Richard was recognized for his service on the Badger Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Following his time in the Navy, he was employed at Oscar Mayer for 41 years.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church was central to his life, where he was a charter member, former president, and longstanding elder of the church. He was active in the community, including the VFW, American Legion, Relay for Life, and Sun Prairie High School Band Booster.
Richard always placed family first in his life next to his relationship with the Lord. A man of few words, he demonstrated his incredible love to and for his family through his actions. His genuine presence touched his family and all who knew him.
The outdoors drew Richard to his passion for hunting, fishing, boating, and golfing. He shared many wonderful memories of deer camp in northern Wisconsin with his sons and family friends. Richard and his wife enjoyed many years in card club with fellow church members as well as close relationships with nearby neighbors. Beginning in 2000, Richard and his wife were snowbirds in Phoenix, Arizona, where they developed many close friendships.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Marion (Evert) Dary; daughter Cynthia Russell (Douglas Lemster), Valparaiso; sons Richard, Jr. (Teri), Waupun; Kevin (Carol), Sussex; Dennis (Laurie), Wausau; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister Marcella Foster, brother Rodney Dary (Bonnie), and many close friends and extended family. Richard was preceded in death by his parents William and Marie Dary and brother, Marvin.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 300 Broadway Dr. in Sun Prairie with Pastors Charlie Brandt and Steve Vera presiding. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be held at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, Richard's family would be grateful for donations to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
